The University of Santo Tomas Central Commission on Elections (UST COMELEC) is the supreme and independent regulatory board of all election-related matters in the University as stipulated in the UST Students’ Election Code of 2011 and the Central Student Council Constitution. In its mission to uphold free, fair, and honest elections within the University of Santo Tomas, it decrees:
- The UST Central and Local COMELEC units recognize the right of every bona fide student at the University of Santo Tomas for the current Academic Term to participate in all election-related activities.
- Following Republic Act No. 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, the UST COMELEC shall only collect, record, and store relevant data such as the student number and votes of the electoral body, and the complete names, student numbers, political parties (if any) of all candidates solely for elections. Only the COMELEC Chamber of Chairpersons, COMELEC Advisers, and the representative of the Office for Student Affairs are given access to all the gathered information upon the canvassing of votes.
- In relation to the Data Privacy Act of 2012, the UST COMELEC shall not disclose any personal and private information without their consent for any purposes other than the elections.
- The UST COMELEC shall uphold the secrecy and validity of all votes cast for the entire duration of the election period. All bona fide students at the University of Santo Tomas are entitled to vote only once for this year’s elections.
